A Record-Breaking Year: 195 LOIs Received for METAvivor’s 2025 Research Grants

Sample

We’re thrilled to share exciting news from METAvivor: we have received 195 Letters of Intent (LOIs) for our 2025 metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research grant cycle — nearly double the number we typically receive in a given year.

This incredible response reflects the growing urgency and need for MBC research funding. As federal resources become increasingly uncertain, investigators are turning to grassroots-funded organizations like METAvivor to keep hope alive and research moving forward.

What Happens Next?

Each LOI is currently being carefully reviewed by teams of scientists and patient advocates. From this pool, the most promising research proposals will be invited to submit full applications this summer.

While we are encouraged by the sheer number of innovative ideas coming through our doors, the reality is sobering: how many of these proposals we can fund depends entirely on donor support.

A Message from Our President

"I am excited about the number of LOIs we have received this year," says Kelly Shanahan, President of METAvivor and a passionate advocate who has been living with MBC for 11 years.

"But I'm also terrified that we won't be able to fund all of the very promising proposals. In these fraught days, we really need our grassroots supporters to fill in the gap of decreased federal funding. I know I'm still alive 11 years post-diagnosis because of research."

Kelly’s words are a powerful reminder of what’s at stake: these are not just grants; they’re potential lifelines for those living with MBC.

Why This Matters

METAvivor is the only U.S. organization that exclusively funds MBC research through peer-reviewed grants. Funds raised for research go directly toward accelerating science that can extend and improve lives

The record number of LOIs submitted this year shows that scientists are ready. They have the ideas, the passion, and the expertise. Now they need our collective support to bring those ideas to life.

How You Can Help

If you’ve ever considered donating to METAvivor, now is the time. Your gift—no matter the size—will directly impact how many breakthrough research projects we can fund in 2025.
